Spondylolisthesis (Slipped Vertebra)
Under normal conditions, the vertebrae of the spine are neatly aligned—one on top of the other. Spondylolisthesis occurs when one of the lumbar (lower back) vertebrae slips forward or backward over the vertebra below it. This misalignment can compress the spinal cord or nerve roots, leading to pain, numbness, muscle weakness, and sometimes difficulty walking.
The treatment for spondylolisthesis generally depends on the severity of the slip. In moderate to severe cases, surgery is often recommended. The most widely accepted surgical technique is TLIF (Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion).
During a TLIF procedure:
  • Screws and rods are placed into the affected vertebrae for stability.
  • The damaged intervertebral disc is completely removed.
  • A metal or polymer spacer (cage) filled with bone graft is inserted between the vertebrae to:
    • Restore disc height,
    • Relieve pressure on the nerves,
    • Promote permanent fusion of the two bones.
Every patient’s condition is unique—so treatment must be carefully planned based on individual symptoms, imaging findings, and overall health. We encourage you to consult with our team to determine the best approach for your specific case.
